THRIVE's (THRIVE - To Help Rural Indian Villages Emerge) current focus is in Orissa; one of the most under-developed and impoverished states within India. Its rural communities have little or no chance of economic proliferation. Necessities such as clean water, food, and basic medical services (including pre and post natal care, immunization, and services for physical checkups) are inaccessible to rural communities. Additionally, villagers lack educational resources that would enable them to secure and mobilize basic needs.

We are currently active in villages located 9 km from Khandapara, Orissa. We are co-ordinating future activities in Jagatsinghpur, Orissa:

Pre-existing problems in these areas include:

  * No sustainable means of economic growth or income generation; the average income per month is 200 rupees. (200 rupees = $5)
* No access to school for the children of this area
* Inaccessible medical facilities
* No electricity; lack of tubewells
* No roadways or other access to communication with the outside world
