The 4th Annual Burlington Cricket Club fundraiser tournament 'BCC Cup 2007' just concluded successfully at the Locke School grounds in Billerica , MA . The Waltham XI team won the tournament played between 30 teams with eleven players per team, sixteen overs a side, with hard tennis cricket balls at the Mitre Grounds and Marshall Fields in Burlington, and the Locke School grounds in Billerica over two weekends.
The tournament was organized by a successful continued collaboration between the Burlington Cricket Club (http://www.burlingtoncricket.org) and the Next Generation Foundation (NGF - http://www.nextgenfoundation.org ). BCC is a not-for-profit group of cricket enthusiasts who play cricket for fun and keep a game alive and kicking in the Greater Boston area. NGF is a Greater Boston based registered socio-charitable 501 (c) (3) public charity organization with the primary goal of supporting the education of underprivileged children in India, irrespective of individual religious or social affiliations. Funds raised from this tournament will benefit the non-profit charitable activities of NGF.
The event was carried out with a huge amount of strategic teamwork among the organizing committee led by the BCC team and supported by the NGF team, and the clock work like perfection of the tournament organization was made possible by the hard work put in by a lot of volunteers. The involvement and single-minded dedication put in by everyone involved towards the dual causes of cricket and NGF's charitable causes paid off in the smooth flow of the events during both the weekends ending in a grand finale. The players played their own part by being very professional and highly enthusiastic towards the cause, while having a lot of fun playing the game.
The event was attended by about 600 people, including about 350 players, making it one of the biggest Indian sporting events in the Greater Boston area. Each of the 30 participating teams paid an entry fee of $100, to contribute to the cause. In addition, various local businesses contributed generously to the tournament's worthy cause by sponsoring the tournament with great enthusiasm.
Platinum sponsors for this year's tournament included: Princeton Properties (http://www.princetonproperties.com) and Pingo (http://www.pingo.com), the calling card services company. "Terry Flahive, the owner of Princeton Properties and Daniel Pereira, Regional Manager and Corporate Sales at Princeton Properties have extended a great amount of support to the tournament and contributed generously to the cause that the tournament supports", remarked Karthik from the Burlington Cricket Club.
The Waltham XI, the BCC Champs, the BCC Leopards and the Crickfreaks teams made it to the semi-finals, this time marking one of the rare occasions, when two BCC teams made it into the semifinals. The Waltham XI and the BCC Leopards teams were the finalists. Waltham XI was the winner of the BCC Cup 2007 defeating BCC Leopards by 13 runs.
Mr. Gaurang of the Waltham XI team won the 'Best Bowler of the Series' having claimed xxx wickets and was also adjudged the 'Man of Match in the Final', while Mr. Vivek of the 'BCC Leopards' garnered the 'Outstanding Performer' award.
Mr. Hemant of the BCC Leopards team won the 'Best Batsman of the Series' having scored xxx runs.
Mr. Kalpesh of the Waltham XI team won the Man of the Series with xxx runs and xxx wickets.
Mr. Ashok Patel of Jamsan hotels, captain of the winning Waltham XI team, was so appreciative of the tournament and so moved by the noble cause of NGF that the tournament supports that he announced a pledge of $1000 on the spot during the awards ceremony, to a huge round of applause, after learning about NGF's activities and the fact that the BCC Cup 2007's proceeds go towards supporting NGF's charitable activities.
